What is a CFP?

Jesse Duhon is a CFP®. What does that mean for you?

CFP® professionals commit to CFP Board to act as a fiduciary, which means acting in the best interests of the client at all times when providing financial advice. This means that Jesse has made a commitment to:

  1. Place your interests above his own interests, or the interests of his firm.
  2. Disclose conflicts of interest to you, obtaining your informed consent and properly managing the conflict.
  3. Continue to put your interests first, even when acting under a conflict of interest.
  4. Comply with the terms of the client engagement and follow your directions, so long as they are reasonable and lawful.
  5. Act with care, skill, prudence and diligence based on your goals, risk tolerance, objective, financial status and personal circumstances.

In order to call himself a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, Jesse had to meet rigorous education, examination, and experience requirements and commit to high ethical and professional standards.

  • Education: He had to complete education covering all of the major personal financial planning areas, including investment planning, tax planning, retirement savings and income planning, and estate planning.
  • Experience: He had to demonstrate practical, real-life experience providing financial planning services in addition to possessing financial planning knowledge.
  • Examination: He completed a 6-hour comprehensive CFP® certification exam, which tested his ability to apply financial planning knowledge to real life situations so that he is highly qualified to help you plan for your financial future.
  • Ethics: He has committed to upholding CFP Board’s Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility, Rules of Conduct and Financial Planning Practice Standards.

Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Center for Financial Planning, Inc. owns and licenses the certification marks CFP® and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ in the United States to Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc., which authorizes individuals who successfully complete the organization’s initial and ongoing certification requirements to use the certification marks.
